Retina, Humor, and Nervous are three laser-engraved drawings on slate that approach the internal body through different systems of representation. Each work begins with an attempt to give form to something that cannot normally be seen directly.

Humor refers to older models of the body in which internal processes were understood through invisible fluids, vapors, forces, or energies. Nervous draws from the language of modern medicine and anatomical representation, where the body is mapped through increasingly precise images and diagrams. Retina, by contrast, is based on a personal visual hallucination and translates a subjective perceptual experience into a diagram.
