Feedback, 2026
Feedback is built from two reel-to-reel tape recorders mounted vertically on a wooden structure. A short loop of magnetic tape travels continuously between the machines, remaining visible as part of the sculpture.
One recorder plays a voice reading a text while the second records that signal back onto another point of the same moving tape. Each cycle introduces a delay and rewrites what was already there. As the process continues, the voice becomes less recognizable and begins to mix with hiss, echo, room sound, and the mechanical noise of the machines.
The work is based on a simple feedback system, but the result is never completely stable. The tape stretches and wears, the recording changes with each pass, and new information accumulates over what came before.
Repetition does not preserve the original sound; it gradually transforms it.
I am interested in this process as a form of memory. The tape carries information physically, but every act of reading and recording also changes what it contains. The work exists in that continuous movement between recording, repetition, loss, and transformation.
